Family Conversations Alexa Skill Categories

If you have been using the Family Conversations Alexa Skill with your children, you might want to ask questions from specific categories. But it might be difficult to remember each of the categories off of the top of your head. Here is a list of all of the categories that you can ask Alexa for specific questions from.

Parent Topics

The parent category is designed to help parents have sometimes difficult, yet important, conversations with their children. Many of the questions in this section are related to safety and law, to make sure that kids know what to do if they are put in difficult situations. As as a parent, you can make sure that your children are well informed about how to handle potentially unsafe situations.

I've designed the skill so that these serious questions do not take up the majority of the user experience. You can have plenty of fun, lighthearted conversations with your kids using this skill. But, when it is time to get serious, you have that opportunity with this category.

Sports

The sports category is designed to help you learn more about your child's opinions regarding sports (favorite sport, favorite athlete, etc.) but some questions also give kids a chance to fantasize and explore their sports dreams. These more open ended questions can lead to fun conversations for the whole family.

Travel

If you have been using the Family Conversations Alexa Skill with your children, you might want to ask questions from specific categories. But it might be difficult to remember each of the categories off of the top of your head. Here is a list of all of the categories that you can ask Alexa for specific questions from.

Relationships

The relationships category will give you an opportunity to discuss topics such as love and sex with your children. These questions can prompt discussions about marriage, love, how to treat someone in a relationship, what to do if their friends are dating, and more.

Food

The food category contains lighthearted questions about your child's favorite foods and food experiences. If your child is a foodie, they will love this category!

Friends

The friends category helps you explore the topic of friendship with your children. You can have conversations about what friendship means, how to be a good friend, what to do after a fight with a friend, or some lighthearted discussions about their friends.

Favorites

This category asks random, fun questions about your children's favorite things. Wondering what their favorite band is these days? Their favorite teacher at school? Questions from this category will help you get to know your kids better by learning more about what they like.

Family

The family category can help you talk to your children about your home life and your family. Again, there are a mix of fun questions and more serious ones, where you can discuss any family issues.

Random

The random category has a lot of open ended questions that are good conversation starters. There are a lot of "what would you do if" and specific scenario based questions.

Self

The self category focuses on your kids and how they feel about themselves, as well as how they think that the world perceives them. This is a good category if you want to know more about your child's inner life - their hopes, dreams, feelings, and positive and negative thoughts.

School

The school category goes far past "what did you do at school today?" While kids don't always like to talk about school or don't know what to say when vaguely asked about school, they do respond to specific questions. This category can help you determine if your child is happy at school, what interests them, and any issues that may arise during their school experience.

Animals

Is your child an animal lover? Then they will love the animals category! This will give them a chance to talk about pets, wild animals, and more.

Video Games & Technology

You might think that technology is not-so-subtly taking over your children's lives, but this category gives you a chance to talk about it! Learn more about the video games that your children like to play, as well as what they do on phones, tablets, computers, and more.

TV & Movies

Many kids like movies and television, and this category gives you the opportunity to explore that interest. Talk about movies, television, actors, and more.

Music

Learn more about the types of music that your kids like or dislike, favorite bands, favorite albums (are those still a thing?) and more with questions from this category.
